Director of Operations Fellow

Roxbury Prep Charter School•Boston, MA

About The Position

The Director of Operations Fellow is a full-time position designed to prepare Fellows to become Directors of Operations (DOOs) at Uncommon Schools. DOOs partner with school Principals to lead school operations and help ensure students receive an exemplary education. Fellows serve as full-time members of an existing school's operations team, working on school- and region-based operations projects and observing and analyzing operational systems. They complete predetermined deliverables that introduce them to key areas of DOO work. The Fellowship is built around professional development, experiential learning, practical application, and reflective practice. Fellows attend professional development workshops, receive individualized coaching and feedback, submit weekly deliverables, and participate in on-site coaching and practice clinics. Practical application includes a 4–6 week immersion during which the Fellow acts as DOO while the host DOO is offsite and co-leads the school with its Principal. Fellows may work across multiple locations and grade spans within their region. The Fellowship typically lasts one year, with duration depending on open positions and Fellow readiness; placements reflect regional needs, Fellow growth areas, and host DOO support. In-person sessions and written reflections help Fellows learn from experience and develop actionable growth plans.
