About The Position

The Director of Nursing will provide strategic, operational, and regulatory leadership for nursing programs, including NAC, ADN, and RN-to-BSN pathways. This position reports to the Dean of Health Sciences, who serves as the Nurse Administrator for all SVC nursing programs and maintains authority and communication with the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON), with this role serving as support. The Director supports program operations, student success, and compliance while contributing to program growth and excellence. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position working 12 months per year. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Unencumbered Washington State RN license
  • Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience
  • Knowledge of nursing regulation and accreditation
  • Ability to maintain partnerships and interagency community connections
  • Engage students through innovative instructional approaches, including learning communities, service learning projects, and contextualized learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity-minded approaches to teaching and learning for all students
  • Practice and adopt a variety of active learning strategies that facilitate student learning and that are inclusive of all cultures and backgrounds
  • Support students in accessing appropriate instructional and non-instructional services to facilitate student retention, completion and academic success for all students
  • Adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including interdisciplinary learning communities, and online and hybrid modalities
  • Express appropriate awareness of the history of underrepresented groups to promote an equitable work and learning environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of associate and certificate-level programs academic scheduling.
  • Provide support of the bachelor’s level programs in partnership with the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • May provide oversight of the adjunct faculty.
  • Provide oversight of classified staff.
  • In collaboration with program staff and faculty, provide oversight of associate degree student recruitment, admissions, academic performance, disciplinary issues, and initiate corrective action.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dean of Health Sciences and the Clinical Coordinator to support clinical course placement, assignments, and scheduling in compliance with agency contracts.
  • In collaboration with administrators, faculty, and staff assures compliance with external regulatory bodies, policies, and laws, specifically the Washington State Board of Nursing.
  • Initiates the generation of data and provides that data for inferential decision making.
  • Collects, monitors, and apprises the Dean of Health Sciences on a quarterly basis regarding adherence to high-quality student outcomes.
  • In collaboration with program staff and faculty, seeks funding sources to support program growth.
  • Directs maintenance and updates of databases, records management, and program websites to ensure accurate administrative records and operational functions.
  • Oversee the development and revision of nursing program handbooks in alignment with state and college policies and practices.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Health Sciences. staff and faculty prepare reports as needed for external bodies: eg, ACEN, WABON, College, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Health Sciences, staff and faculty, expand community partnerships to facilitate robust advisory board participation, student employment opportunities, and clinical placements.
  • Supervise assigned Nursing Department employees.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviews, hiring recommendations, and training new instructors, clinical instructor substitutes, and lab assistants in instructional methods and classroom expectations.
  • Coordinate meetings and communicate matters to the Nursing department faculty and staff.
  • Establish and monitor process with support staff examining current equipment and supplies.
  • Utilize Customer Relation Management software to manage communications and interactions with prospective students of the RN to BSN program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborates with the Dean of Health Sciences to fulfil the college and program mission, vision, and values.
  • Collaborates with administrators, faculty, and staff in daily oversight of the nursing programs with regard to curriculum planning, integration, and evaluation.
  • Participate and facilitate the development of the department's systematic evaluation plans.
  • Mentors and counsels faculty in the development and enhancement of teaching skills.
  • Assures quality of instruction and development of faculty as educators in conjunction with the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Facilitate staff and faculty efforts in establishing program goals and objectives in planning and implementing the activities to achieve them.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Health Science and Nursing staff and faculty, support monitoring and maintenance of current and accurate course information and academic records, including syllabi, objectives, faculty and student records, and reports for accreditation.
