The Director of Nursing is responsible for managing key operational systems including Quality, Service Design, Process Design, Location, Layout, People, and Work Systems. This role establishes and monitors Continuous Quality Improvement performance standards. The Director will proactively manage day-to-day scheduling and staffing decisions to ensure optimal coverage and patient care. They will also facilitate the individual development of assigned staff through effective selection, orientation, performance evaluation, interpersonal communication, and coaching. This includes conducting corrective action discussions and writing/reviewing job descriptions. The Director manages direct expenses according to budget, seeks growth opportunities, and manages the revenue cycle. They prepare budgets, evaluate processes for efficiency, and prioritize capital needs. A key focus is on patient satisfaction, addressing concerns, and acting as a change agent for patient-focused care. The role ensures ongoing compliance with licensure, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and provides leadership during survey processes. The Director maintains professional knowledge, supports committees, provides orthopedic education to pre-op patients, and offers leadership oversight for various departments and staff. They perform audits, address improvement opportunities, and provide executive support in the absence of the Executive Director. Additionally, they advise the Executive Management Team on best practices, act as a spokesperson for nursing issues, create a collaborative nursing environment, partner with physicians for patient safety and workflow, and ensure nursing standards are upheld.
