About The Position

Diablo Valley Post Acute is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department and ensure the highest standards of resident care. The DON is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for overseeing all nursing services, supervising clinical staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting exceptional resident outcomes. This leadership role also includes providing direct resident care as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical expertise, proven leadership experience in skilled nursing or post-acute care, and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of nursing leadership experience, preferably in a skilled nursing, post-acute, or long-term care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of California Department of Public Health (CDPH), CMS, and long-term care regulations.
  • Experience with MDS coordination, care planning, quality assurance, and survey readiness.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall management and leadership of the nursing department, including staffing oversight and workforce planning.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain nursing policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure resident safety and promote a culture of dignity, respect, and quality care.
  • Develop and conduct clinical education programs and in-service training for nursing staff.
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts for nursing personnel.
  • Coordinate pharmacy services, including proper handling and destruction of expired or discontinued medications.
  • Serve as a liaison between the facility, physicians, residents, and family members.
  • Participate in legal proceedings and serve as a witness in the event of litigation when required.
  • Collaborate with all facility departments to ensure exceptional interdisciplinary resident care.
  • Manage departmental budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and communicate changes to appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA), Utilization Review, and Patient Care conferences.
  • Lead and support all state surveys, audits, and required corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate MDS processes and comprehensive care planning activities.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and address personnel matters, including coaching, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding resident, patient, and employee information.
  • Provide direct, hands-on resident/patient care as necessary.
  • Supervising and managing the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) and the entire nursing team, either directly or indirectly.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, performance management, and clinical oversight to ensure excellence in resident care and operational effectiveness.
