About The Position

The Director of Nursing plans, organizes, implements a quality care approach reflecting a person-centered model of care that promotes a home-like environment, supports family involvement, ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations and provides clinical and operational leadership to promote high-quality outcomes in the care neighborhoods.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing required, Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Valid and current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Nursing home experience, which has provided opportunities to refine competencies in nursing practice and the application of administrative practices (minimum five years) clinical experience in geriatric and/or rehabilitation services preferred.
  • Must be highly professional in actions and appearance and exhibit a warm, cheerful and caring manner.
  • Must be knowledgeable of diverse State and Federal Regulations that impact on the nursing home industry and stay informed.
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to function in the role of the professional nurse at the bedside to support staffing.
  • Must be able to participate in an on-call rotation and work rare but occasional non-standard hours.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Oversight Accountable for the overall quality of care which requires situational awareness of the clinical scenarios of all residents.
  • Oversees clinical operations including, but not limited to, assessments, documentation accuracy and timeliness, care planning, medication processes, and infection prevention.
  • Ensures alignment with community wide standards.
  • Ensures all staff maintain clinical competencies, including annual training and skills validation.
  • Collaborates with the Infection Preventionist to enforce infection control policies and outbreak management.
  • Ensures adherence to infection control practices, safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Oversee the establishment and updating of clinical standards of practice and standards of care, as well as clinical policies and procedures which are consistent with evidence-based practice, current nursing research WI Nursing Practice Act, DOH, DHS and/or CMS regulations.
  • Continually strives to achieve clinical and operational performance improvement by motivation and inspiring nurses to practice at the top of their license.
  • Implements efficient systems that enhance quality resident care delivery and outcomes.
  • Establishes and strengthens the infrastructure to promote and support the utilization of evidence-based practice Creates and maintains an environment of recognition, celebration and acknowledgment of the contributions of the clinical staff to resident care and to the clinical professions.
  • Ensures resident rights and privacy by fostering a culture of dignity.
  • Responsible for ensuring that resident rights, privacy, choice and preference is protected.
  • Provides direct supervision to the Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Maintains overall responsibility for hiring, onboarding, coaching, evaluations, discipline and termination of nursing personnel.
  • Ensures appropriate staff scheduling and adequate coverage.
  • Functions in the role of professional nurse at the bedside to support staffing.
  • Aligns care processes with resident choices, dignity and personal goals.
  • Implement and oversee systems that monitor performance, identify gaps.
  • Develop action plans to enhance resident care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Leads the neighborhood QAPI program, Falls Prevention Program, and Infection Prevention Program including data monitoring, performance improvement plans, and outcome tracking.
  • Attends associated committee meetings.
  • Ensures timely completion of investigations, incident reporting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Implements neighborhood wide changes to policies or processes and provides training to resolve issues at their source.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring operations and its programs and physical properties, and initiating changes where required.
  • In collaboration with the Administrator, leads survey preparedness activities, coordinates survey responses and completes Plan of Correction.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of regulatory changes and ensures timely policy updates.
  • Participates in strategic planning, goal setting, budget preparation and priority setting, and program development in collaboration with the Administrator and the Chief Clinical Officer.
  • Responsible for fiscal stewardship, managing departmental staffing, supply expense, and operational costs within the approved budget.
  • Ensures consistency and appropriate standardization related to staffing plans, staffing ratios, skill mix, and use of premium staffing.
  • Responsible for processes related to resident flow and bed management Represents the organization at community and professional events.
