About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Nursing (DON) to provide leadership and oversight of nursing services in a skilled nursing and long-term care environment. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, resident-centered care while maintaining compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. This position will oversee nursing staff, clinical operations, staffing, quality improvement initiatives, documentation, care planning, and regulatory readiness. Previous long-term care experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state of practice.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Strong understanding of nursing practices and resident-centered care.
  • Knowledge of medications, including therapeutic effects and potential side effects.
  • Knowledge of long-term care regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage staffing, scheduling, documentation, and departmental operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, and employees.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Ability to maintain a stationary position and move as required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to communicate, observe, assess, and respond to resident and staff needs.
  • Ability to operate and use workplace equipment, tools, and computer systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Comply with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, organizational policies, procedures, and corporate compliance requirements related to the position.

  • Previous supervisory or nursing leadership experience preferred.
  • Previous long-term care/skilled nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the nursing department's annual budget and resources.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and accurate use of the scheduling system.
  • Promote a safe, efficient, and supportive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in state and federal nursing home surveys and regulatory inspections.
  • Develop and implement Plans of Correction (POCs) when required and monitor completion.
  • Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QA/CQI) initiatives.
  • Oversee and monitor the electronic medical record (EMR) system, including documentation, reports, dashboards, training, and audits.
  • Ensure timely completion of pre-admission assessments and comprehensive nursing assessments.
  • Ensure individualized resident care plans are developed, implemented, evaluated, and updated as needed.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of nursing interventions and ensure appropriate changes are made.
  • Ensure resident rights, dignity, privacy, and choices are respected.
  • Immediately address and report concerns involving abuse, neglect, or resident rights according to applicable policies and regulations.
  • Ensure physicians are notified promptly of changes in resident condition and that orders are processed appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely resident records.
  • Ensure nursing staff receive appropriate training and effectively utilize required systems and procedures.
  • Participate in care conferences, special events, committees, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor resident conditions and ensure appropriate action is taken regarding changes in physical or emotional status.
  • Ensure families and responsible parties are appropriately notified of significant changes in resident condition.
  • Promote appropriate antibiotic stewardship practices.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with residents, families, physicians, nursing staff, and other departments.
  • Keep current with changes in regulations, clinical practices, programs, and standards of care.
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making in clinical and administrative matters.
  • Foster positive working relationships and employee engagement throughout the organization.
  • Directly supervise assigned nursing personnel and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
