Shriners Children’s is seeking a Director of Nursing for their Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role holds administrative authority and responsibility for patient care services, policies, procedures, evidence-based nursing standards, and compliance with the Nurse Practice Act. The Director reports directly to the site administrator and indirectly to the Regional Nurse Executive and System Chief Nursing Officer. This position involves maintaining strong relationships with various stakeholders, including the Board of Governors, site leadership, physicians, and department leaders. Key functions include developing and evaluating short and long-term goals for nursing and assigned departments, directing and planning process improvements in patient care, and ensuring care aligns with the Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) Professional Practice Model. The role also emphasizes effective communication, staying informed about legislation affecting nursing practice, and acting as a resource for nursing standards and practices within the ambulatory center. As part of the Senior Leadership team, the Director contributes to the site’s strategic plan, policy formulation, and committee participation. They will provide administrative coverage in the administrator's absence and represent the site in community educational programs. Leadership involves mentoring and guiding patient care leaders and staff, role-modeling professional practice, and coaching the leadership team. Collaboration with site leadership is crucial for developing patient safety initiatives, quality improvement strategies, and enhancing patient and employee satisfaction. The Director will embrace shared decision-making, conduct frequent patient care rounds, provide timely feedback, and foster harmonious relationships. Budgetary oversight, development, allocation, and administration for assigned departments are key responsibilities, ensuring quality management within resource constraints. This includes analyzing complex data, developing and implementing nursing care plans aligned with the organization's mission, evaluating patient care services and staffing, and managing human resources through workforce planning, performance management, and identifying future needs. The Director will also participate in interviewing key leadership positions and collaborate on the selection and evaluation of information technology to support patient care.
