About The Position

NaphCare is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead medical professionals at the Clackamas County Jail in Oregon City, Oregon. The DON plays a crucial role in creating a positive work environment for nursing and support staff by setting clear expectations, communicating practice changes, advocating for nursing needs, providing guidance and support, collaborating with other staff, and participating in recruitment, coaching, and mentoring. All work must comply with established standards and regulations. The Director of Nursing is responsible for managing all aspects of the nursing staff to ensure patients receive quality care that upholds their rights, dignity, and health.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in Oregon.
  • Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred).
  • Three years of clinical and progressive management experience in a government or private organization related to comprehensive medical, dental, and mental healthcare services within a correctional healthcare or acute care setting.
  • Ability to manage complex staffing matrices and clinical supplies.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven experience leading, managing, and coaching medical staff through complex Human Resource issues and challenges.
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
  • Leading Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Managing nursing operations, resources, budgets, and staffing schedules.
  • Overseeing hiring and training of new staff, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ensuring staff adherence to current and new policies and procedures and the company Code of Conduct.
  • Effectively communicating with healthcare and correctional staff to coordinate patient care with external providers.
  • Monitoring compliance with site-specific and company policies and procedures, taking corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA and NCCHC standards.
  • Ensuring all healthcare-related equipment and supplies, including pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medications, are appropriately stocked and available.
  • Supporting staff in developing and maintaining competency in problem-solving and nursing diagnoses.
  • Conducting daily clinical rounds to observe and review documentation, orders, and patient care plans, ensuring objectives are understood and practiced by nursing staff.
  • Conducting educational classes, in-service training, and training staff on new procedures/policies.
  • Mitigating risks by proactively addressing potential hazards, including dangerous work conditions and health and safety concerns, and reporting issues to company leadership and facility management.
  • Participating in all monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings as assigned and required for contract compliance.
