About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) ensures that all nursing activities meet professional standards and patient care protocols. They supervise and enforce established nursing protocols and policies, monitor outcomes, and implement evidence-based practices to maintain high-quality care across the facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college is required and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years as an RN with supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of nursing best practices.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, physical health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric/medical medications/treatments.
  • Knowledge of behavioral healthcare medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in order to facilitate treatment and relay information to others as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to perform medical interviews in order to obtain information and to formulate appropriate treatment plans and referrals.
  • Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representatives in the community.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client @other locations.
  • Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes situations accurately and develops appropriate responses or techniques.
  • Records data and completes documentation within established expectations and by communicated deadlines.
  • Responds effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner.
  • Works in and contributes to a collaborative team environment.
  • Participates in and successfully passes behavioral intervention training, including verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques.
