The Director of Nursing supervises and directs the entire nursing staff across departments. This position requires a qualified administrator who can appropriately integrate with the staff and other department staff that provide and contribute to Client care. He/she implements several important functions including information synthesis, business management, planning, human resource management, and supervision. He/She is responsible for taking all reasonable steps to assure that the optimal achievable quality of care is provided. Knows DSM-5 nomenclature, Baker Act Law/Marchman Act Law and criteria, DCF Program Standards, CARF Accreditation Standards and best practices in nursing care.

Requirements

  • Must be a registered nurse in the State of Florida with appropriate education, experience, licensure and demonstrated ability in nursing practice and administration.
  • Minimum of five year’s experience as a general staff nurse with psychiatric inpatient or clinical experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in management/supervision.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the use of personal computers, and standard office productivity software.
  • A valid Class E Drivers’ License for positions that require driving personal or Agency vehicle on Agency business.
  • Must maintain a minimum Bodily Injury & Property Liability insurance limit of at least $50,000 for positions that require driving personal own vehicle (POV) on Agency business. (Proof Required)
  • PPBH is a 24/7 Agency. All employees must be available as needed when required.

Responsibilities

  • Will directly and indirectly supervises ALL nurses including per diem staff and across the Agency. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Effectively manages and directs the Nursing Staff while providing regular operational and clinical supervision.
  • Interview, hire and train Nursing staff and ensure the departments are staffed 24/7/365 with Nursing as indicated by law and applicable guidelines, and that maintains the safety of clients and staff.
  • Be readily available during daily operating hours and on-call by phone after hours for clinical consultation with staff in support of staff and clients in need of assistance.
  • Be readily available to fill in gaps in nursing coverage when needed.
  • Participates in the investigation of incident reports and client complaints.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage human resources so that both the Agency and the employee’s benefit. This management includes objectively interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating and counseling.
  • Develops, initiates, and maintains Policies & Procedures to be followed by staff which will promote the physical and emotional health of the client and which will hasten his/her rehabilitation and adjustment during and after treatment.
  • Ensure no more than a 5% annual accrual in overtime hours for nursing.
  • Perform other duties as required by Supervisor.
