About The Position

Sage Group HealthCare Staffing is seeking to hire a Director of Nursing (DON) for a travel contract position in St Ignace, MI. This role involves overseeing all nursing services to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate resident care. The DON will be responsible for clinical and resident care, leadership and staff management, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, administrative and operational duties, and education and staff development. The position requires a strong understanding of long-term care nursing best practices and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse experience: 3 to 5 years
  • Prior Leadership or Management experience (DON or Similar): 2 years
  • Must have own transportation
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • RN License for State of MI
  • BLS Certifications from AHA
  • Infection Control Certification

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all nursing services to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate resident care
  • Ensure proper assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident care
  • Monitor resident outcomes and address quality-of-care concerns
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals
  • Supervise and support nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and nurse managers)
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate nursing staff
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive work environment
  • Address staff performance issues and conduct disciplinary actions when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS, state health departments)
  • Prepare for and participate in surveys, inspections, and audits
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures consistent with regulations
  • Lead quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives
  • Develop and manage nursing department budgets
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and efficient use of resources
  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation
  • Participate in facility leadership meetings and strategic planning
  • Ensure ongoing education, training, and competency evaluations for nursing staff
  • Stay current with best practices in long-term care nursing
  • Promote infection control, safety, and risk management programs
