About The Position

Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda is seeking an accomplished, people-centered Director of Nursing (RN) to lead clinical excellence in one of our most dynamic and high-impact assisted living communities. This is a pivotal leadership role for a nurse executive who believes that strong systems, empowered teams, and high standards are the foundation of exceptional resident care. Located in the town of Tonawanda’s Sheridan-Parkside neighborhood, Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda serves residents, offering a DON the opportunity to practice at the top of their license while shaping the full nursing operation - strategy, staffing, quality, and culture. As Director of Nursing, you are not just overseeing care - you are defining it. You will set the clinical vision and expectations for the entire Nursing Services Department, build, mentor, and retain a high-performing nursing leadership team, drive quality outcomes, regulatory readiness, and continuous improvement, and partner closely with the Administrator, Medical Director, Pharmacy, and interdisciplinary leaders. You will be the clinical voice and decision-maker residents, families, and staff trust. The ideal candidate is a confident, steady, and respected nurse leader who builds trust and accountability through clear communication, leads with presence, fairness, and follow-through, creates an environment where staff feel proud of their work, solves problems thoughtfully and diplomatically, and balances compassion with operational discipline.

Requirements

  • Credentials of Registered Professional Nurse with a current state license required.
  • At least two years of supervisory nursing experience required.
  • Proficiency in various computer programs, applications, electronic communications, and electronic medical records.
  • Ability to participate in facility on call program, which may include working at facility during off hours.
  • This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors.
  • In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience in Assisted Living preferred.
  • UAS-PRI certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and federal AH, EHP, ALR, ALP, EALR and SNARL regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all staff management, training, scheduling, and personnel functions
  • Responsible for Resident Care Services and the overall direction and supervision of all direct care carried out by resident care staff.
  • Evaluate resident on admission, obtain medical history, check physician orders, transfer and pre-admission information.
  • Review resident’s medical and social history.
  • Conduct re-admission assessments for residents in area hospitals when necessary.
  • Serve as spokesperson for the Nursing Department for matters relating to the Department of Health.
  • Prepare and manage facility budget.
  • Conduct clinical workflow analysis and design.
  • Oversee operations of the Nursing department.
