The Director of Nursing is responsible for coordinating, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern nursing care facilities. This role involves maintaining a reference library, developing methods for coordinating nursing services, participating in facility surveys, and collaborating with the Clinical Services Coordinator to resolve issues. The Director will also develop action plans for systems issues, collect and analyze clinical outcome data, attend QA and A committee meetings, and assist in planning for resident admissions and discharges. Additionally, the role includes serving on facility committees, determining and monitoring nursing department staffing needs, reviewing nursing policies and procedures annually, participating in the interviewing and selection of nursing staff, ensuring performance evaluations, assisting with in-service training, ensuring adequate supplies, overseeing the administration of medical and nursing care, preparing and adhering to the nursing services budget, maintaining resident confidentiality, ensuring residents are treated with dignity and respect, and maintaining a liaison with residents, families, and support departments. The Director will also provide education and in-servicing to facility staff.
