This role administers the nursing program in a long term care facility to maintain standards of resident care. It facilitates the optimization of the geriatric care process to improve the quality and efficiency of service. The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall quality of care provided by the organization's nursing personnel and advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing service and strategies. The position involves interpreting policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups, monitoring the operations of the nursing staff, and ensuring compliance with regulations on organizational and governmental standards and practices. Responsibilities include scheduling staff, conducting employee performance reviews, and providing nursing care to residents on an as-needed basis. The role also assists in the development and implementation of marketing activities/programs, has overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the long term care facility (including quality of resident care, program/care management, environmental safety, budget constraints, and responding to identified needs to ensure regulatory compliance), and performs necessary delegation and coordination for clinical, operational, and managerial activities. The Director of Nursing effectively manages and directs the work of individuals or teams, maintains communication, and addresses the rapidly changing healthcare environment. They lead the development and execution of clinical programs, policies, procedures, and protocols, ensuring system integration and adherence.
