This role administers the nursing program in a long term care facility to maintain standards of resident care, optimizes the geriatric care process, and is responsible for the overall quality of care provided by the organization's nursing personnel. The Director of Nursing advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators on nursing service matters and strategies. They interpret policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups, monitor nursing staff operations for compliance with regulations and standards, and schedule staff while conducting performance reviews. This position also involves providing direct nursing care as needed, assisting with marketing activities, and having overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the long term care facility, including quality of care, program management, environmental safety, budget, and regulatory compliance. The role requires delegation and coordination of clinical, operational, and managerial activities, effective management of individuals or teams, and maintaining communication within the rapidly changing healthcare environment. It also includes leading the development and execution of clinical programs, policies, procedures, and protocols, ensuring system integration and adherence.
