Director of Nursing RN - Emergency
About The Position
The Director of Emergency Department (ED) is a Registered Nurse responsible for the clinical and operational leadership of Emergency Services, with 24-hour accountability for the department. Reporting to the CNO or Administrator, this leader oversees patient care, nursing staff, ED operations, staffing, quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement. The role involves leading daily clinical and operational functions, supervising and developing ED nursing staff, overseeing staffing, productivity, patient flow, throughput, and resource utilization. The Director also drives quality, patient safety, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance, partnering with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to improve ED operations and patient outcomes. Additionally, this role provides leadership during emergencies, critical events, and hospital codes, and promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, employee engagement, and patient-centered care.
Requirements
- Current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse
- Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate upon hire and maintain current
- Current PALS upon hire and maintain current
- A minimum of two years supervisory/management experience necessary
- Minimum of three years of continuous clinical experience in a clinical/acute care setting
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required for all new hires after 1/11/2021
Nice To Haves
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred
- NRP certificate within 30 days upon hire and maintain current (for Non-OB facilities)
