About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) / Registered Nurse (RN) plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing the nursing department within a healthcare facility, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This position is responsible for managing nursing staff, developing and implementing nursing policies, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. The DON/RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care plans and improve clinical outcomes. Additionally, this role involves budgeting, staffing, and training responsibilities to foster a supportive and efficient nursing environment. Ultimately, the DON/RN ensures that all nursing activities align with the facility’s mission to provide compassionate, safe, and effective care to patients and residents.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare regulations, and patient care standards.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Previous experience as a Director of Nursing or in a senior nursing management position.
  • Certification in Nursing Administration (e.g., Nurse Executive Certification).
  • Experience working in long-term care, skilled nursing facilities, or similar healthcare settings.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare management software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise nursing staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Manage nursing budgets, resources, and supplies to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Conduct regular audits and quality assurance activities to uphold high standards of care and patient safety.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed, demonstrating clinical expertise and serving as a role model for staff.
  • Facilitate ongoing education and professional development opportunities for nursing personnel.
  • Address and resolve patient and family concerns related to nursing care promptly and effectively.
