Director of Nursing Practice
About The Position
This role leads the architecture and national rollout of nursing leadership development frameworks that align clinical excellence with Ascension’s long-term strategic goals. The position involves cultivating and mentoring talent through strategic mentorship, succession planning, and continuous professional growth programs for nurse leaders. It requires designing and executing visionary operational goals that align clinical workflows with the medical, administrative, legal, and ethical standards of Ascension. Additionally, the role leverages data analytics to address clinical variations, minimize safety gaps, and champion evidence-based practices, ensuring measurable improvements in retention, engagement, and patient safety metrics. Collaboration with regulatory teams to support audits and synthesizing national clinical standards into enterprise nursing operations are also key aspects of this position.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Master's degree in nursing required.

- Experience in nursing leadership to support a high-impact nursing operations framework.
- Proven success leading evidence-based nursing and patient safety initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and national rollout of nursing leadership development frameworks that align clinical excellence with Ascension’s long-term strategic goals.
- Lead strategic mentorship, succession planning, and continuous professional growth programs for nurse leaders.
- Partner closely with executive nursing leadership, HR, and multidisciplinary teams to proactively identify future workforce trends, workforce shortages, and competency gaps.
- Design and execute visionary operational goals that align clinical workflows with the medical, administrative, legal, and ethical standards of Ascension.
- Leverage data analytics (such as NDNQI insights) to address clinical variations, minimize safety gaps, and Champion evidence-based practices across Ascension, ensuring that investments translate into measurable improvements in retention, engagement and patient safety metrics.
- Collaborate with regulatory teams to support internal and external regulatory audits.
- Synthesize national clinical standards and evidence-based research into enterprise nursing operations, empowering nursing teams across all ministries to reduce clinical variation.
