About The Position

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Director of Nursing Operations within our Emergency Services department. This role oversees nursing operations 24/7 across multiple facilities within the healthcare system, ensuring consistent quality care and efficient resource management. The Director leads service line strategic planning, develops system-wide nursing policies, and collaborates with other departments to align clinical and operational goals. Responsibilities include managing budgets, staffing, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, fostering a unified approach to patient care across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree as applicable to area of assigned responsibility.
  • If eligible, must have a Compact (multi-state) License in their primary state of residence.
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the state where work is being performed.
  • Meets contact hour requirements for Licensure, including all state-required courses.
  • Knowledge of management, change management and organization theory.
  • Ability to apply key principles in a clinical environment.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor in clinical area of expertise.
  • Budgetary experience.
  • Able to analyze and effect change.
  • 5 years in a manager position.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees a diverse team of managers/leaders of a system wide operational business unit.
  • Design/implement efficient services, offer revenue enhancements, monitor expenses, benchmark, encourage service excellence and provide effective communications.
  • Oversee staff hiring and development, evaluate job performance, offer constructive feedback, discipline as necessary, and provide ongoing coaching to ensure activities are performed within department and SEH policy.
  • Responsible for establishing short and long-range goals/objectives with key stakeholders through visioning which support the department, nursing and healthcare strategic plan.
  • Actively supports the nursing shared governance structure and assures that staffs are involved in decision-making.
  • Collaborates with system-wide leaders in strategic planning, decision making, goal setting, communication and coordination of patient care/ services, and allocation of resources.
  • Directs and oversees development and implementation of policies and procedures utilizing current research, evidence-based clinical practice, professional clinical practice guidelines, national accreditation standards, and healthcare trends to develop evidence based protocols governing client/patient clinical care and activities.
  • Maintains effective system-wide communication and collaboration with various departments and disciplines including physicians, patients, visitors and other stakeholders.
  • Manages human resources to meet clinical needs of patients.
  • Assures that models of care and clinical processes are consistent with any applicable state Nurse Practice Act, professional standards, St. Elizabeth Healthcare Nursing Professional Practice Model, and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Manages and provides supervision for contracted services.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain professional relationships to ensure an environment conducive to customer service and high-quality patient care.
  • Ensures ongoing monitoring of patient satisfaction scores and works within the service lines across the system to establish customer service initiatives and goals.
  • Ensure patient experience best practices such as AIDET, leadership rounding, bedside reporting, managing up, etc. are being maintained within areas of responsibility.
  • Establishes and maintains an ongoing performance improvement program for all services with the business units across the system that aligns with the healthcare system performance improvement plan.
  • Monitors that all quality initiatives have a structured process in each area of responsibility to ensure meeting unit, service line, and organizational goals and sustaining results.
  • Directs and provides oversight to maintaining compliance to specific business unit regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Coach, empower, and mentor managers/leaders/staff across the system to support their professional and personal growth.
  • Develop and support an effective communication process throughout all levels of the organization both intra and interdepartmentally.
  • Supports and promotes effective physician communication and engagement with staff.
  • Oversees and evaluates the development and implementation of all employee engagement tools to achieve and/or sustain departmental/facility/organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates management and leadership skills in directing operational activities and strategic initiatives.
  • Active in professional organizations on a local, regional and/or national level.
  • Participates in hospital system activities to support department and healthcare system goals/initiatives.
  • Participates in community benefit activities and outreach to enhance the visibility of the healthcare system and collaborative relationships.
  • Ensure personal program growth and development through education and/or certification.
  • Creates, implements, monitors, and controls designated operating and capital budgets for service lines across the system.
  • Accountable for budgetary compliance to defined goals/targets and expected outcomes.
  • Interprets and analyzes data to assess, plan, and develop capital/operational business performance which support system strategic plan.
  • Monitors the adjustment of staffing to meet with needs of the patient demand ensuring staff productivity.
  • Daily/Weekly/Monthly analysis, interpretation and reporting of financial management tools.
  • Prepare, present, track and self-report all threshold capital/operational business plans.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
