Director of New Media

Atoms•Los Angeles, CA
•$159,000 - $187,000•Onsite

About The Position

Atoms is seeking a senior content and communications leader to oversee the portfolio-wide content and communications strategy across its Food, Mining, and Transport businesses. This role involves building a cohesive public narrative for a company operating in diverse industries. The Director will set the strategy for Atoms' presence in traditional and new media, manage external media opportunities such as podcasts and content creator partnerships, and build relationships with vertical-embedded agencies and operators. This position requires advising Atoms leadership on public communication strategies for each vertical, especially as the company emerges from a period of media stealth. The ideal candidate will have experience building a media and communications function from the ground up in a high-growth, product-and-regulator-adjacent company, reporting directly to leadership, and unifying a multi-faceted business under a single public narrative.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in media and communications.
  • Direct experience building a content & media function from zero at a high-growth company in a regulated or partnership-dependent industry.
  • Track record of reporting directly into leadership as a strategic advisor.
  • Range across the full spectrum of comms work (product launches, funding announcements, executive comms, crisis response, internal comms).
  • Experience managing a portfolio of boutique agency relationships in parallel.
  • Judgment to hold several distinct narratives at once without collapsing them into one generic voice.
  • High creative bar for producing video and written content.
  • Sound instincts for substance-forward, low-combativeness media strategy, with an understanding of the asymmetric downside of an adversarial press strategy.
  • Existing relationships in one or more of: restaurant tech, industrial/mining press, robotics and deep tech, or business/finance trade media.
  • Experience building new-media placement strategy for founders or executives.

Responsibilities

  • Own the company-wide moment calendar, sequencing partnership announcements, fundraises, key hires, and first-site or product launches to create a coherent story.
  • Build and run the vertical media network, recruiting and managing boutique agencies and individual operators embedded in each industry's press ecosystem.
  • Lead new-media strategy for Atoms leadership, identifying and securing placements with top-tier and niche podcasts, shows, and events relevant to each vertical's audience.
  • Run a top-tier content creation team responsible for producing high-quality media.
  • Set channel and tier strategy, operating the existing architecture including the newsroom, blog/Perspectives, and company LinkedIn.
  • Drive customer-forward storytelling, structuring press moments where customers speak directly about their own growth.
  • Advise leadership directly on the timing, framing, and risk of every major public moment, considering regulatory and partnership consequences.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (multiple plans, incl. HSA options).
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance (short- and long-term).
  • Voluntary insurance: accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity.
  • Optional supplemental life insurance for self, spouse, and children.
  • Pet insurance discount.
  • 401(k).
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (Healthcare, Dependent Care, Commuter)
  • Discretionary vacation days
  • 8 paid holidays per year
  • Paid sick time
  • Paid Bereavement leave
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Equity awards
  • Annual performance-based bonus
