About The Position

St. Francis de Sales Parish & School in Newark, Ohio is seeking a faithful and collaborative Director of Music to lead and grow the parish’s liturgical music ministry. The Director of Music coordinates music for weekend Masses, holy days, sacramental celebrations, weddings, funerals, and school liturgies, working closely with clergy, parish staff, and school leadership.

Practicing Catholics committed to the mission of the Church
Able to lead liturgical music in a collaborative parish setting
Ability to play the organ or willingness to learn

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in music (or equivalent experience)
Experience with Catholic liturgy
Experience with choir direction
Experience with parish sound systems
Experience with livestream ministry

Responsibilities

Directing the adult choir
Developing a parish children’s choir
Collaborating with the school music teacher to support school choir leadership for liturgical celebrations
Forming and scheduling cantors
Assisting with oversight of parish sound equipment and livestream ministry volunteers
Supporting seasonal liturgical planning
Maintaining music resources
Participating in parish staff collaboration and liturgy preparation
