About The Position

This position supports the formation work of the Office of Mission Engagement by designing, coordinating, and facilitating programs that deepen understanding and integration of Loyola Marymount University’s educational, social, and intellectual traditions. The Director develops and leads initiatives that help faculty and staff connect their professional responsibilities to the university’s Jesuit and Marymount traditions, as well as to the broader values of Catholic higher education. The Director also serves as a campus resource and thought partner on Catholic social thought, helping to articulate and apply its principles to the university’s commitments to inclusion, belonging, equity, and justice as expressions of its mission. Working collaboratively across academic and administrative units and under the direction of the Executive Director of the Office of Mission Engagement, the Director cultivates opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and professional development that integrate the values of Jesuit/Marymount education, humanist and liberal arts education, and Catholic social thought. Under new leadership and a recent restructuring, the university seeks to bring the work of equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice into closer alignment with LMU’s mission, Catholic identity, and Jesuit and Marymount educational traditions through the cross-divisional Mission Integration initiative. This position will assist in building the university community’s capacity for engaging in equity work within the field of mission and will collaborate with Mission Integration personnel across units to pursue these goals.

Requirements

Typically a master’s degree in theology, religious studies, spirituality, higher education, or a related field.
Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
At least five years of experience working in higher education; experience at a Jesuit or Catholic institution highly preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic social tradition.
Familiarity with Ignatian spirituality and Jesuit and/or Marymount education.
Ability to engage faculty and professional staff from diverse disciplines and backgrounds; familiarity with interfaith and multicultural contexts.
Exceptional communication and facilitation skills; ability to translate and make accessible complex concepts for diverse audiences.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends, with occasional travel.

Responsibilities

Under supervision of the Executive Director of the Office of Mission Engagement, develop and deliver initiatives that connect faculty and staff professional roles and identities with the principles of Jesuit/Marymount education, whole-person formation, and principles of the Catholic social tradition in the context of higher education.
Serve as a member of the Mission Integration team, ensuring coordination and alignment of programs/initiatives with Mission Integration efforts across campus. As part of the team, develop and implement strategy, trainings, and programming to support capacity-building and formation in the areas of mission-centered equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice for LMU faculty and staff. Provide thought leadership in clearly grounding Mission Integration initiatives within the frameworks of the Catholic social and intellectual traditions.
Provide intellectual and programmatic leadership for engagement with Catholic social thought within the university community, especially as it informs institutional commitments to human dignity, integral ecology, inclusion, flourishing, and justice. Contribute to the development of resources, curricula, and materials that support faculty and staff engagement with Catholic social thought and associated values.
Partner with the Office of Faculty Development and Engagement in support of teacher-scholar formation, mission-centered justice initiatives, and Ignatian educational frameworks. In collaboration with the Associate Provost for Faculty Excellence and Mission Integration, coordinate with the Office of Faculty Development and Engagement to ensure coherence, shared ownership, and sustainability of faculty development and formation efforts, learning communities, institutes, and retreats.
Coordinate with the Center for Service and Action to support connections between university and Catholic social values and service and advocacy initiatives.
Work closely with colleagues in the Office of Mission Engagement and the Division of Mission to align formation efforts with institutional priorities and strategic initiatives. Contribute to divisional planning related to mission integration, faculty and staff development, and institutional identity.
Serve on the Mission Management Team, Mission Engagement Team, and other campus committees as opportunities arise; bring the perspective of a mission and identity professional to the process of fulfilling the charge of the committee.
Evaluate the effectiveness of formation programs and recommend improvements based on participant feedback and institutional needs.
