About The Position

The Director of Mines is responsible for the performance and development of Atlas' fixed plant mining organization. This role leads, coaches, and develops plant managers, maintenance managers, and site leadership teams—building leadership capability, driving accountability, and cultivating a high-performing culture centered on safety and operational excellence. Uniting mining, processing, and maintenance into one operating model, this leader sets clear expectations and delivers on safety, production, quality, and financial commitments while developing future leaders and building resilient operations that support Atlas' long-term growth.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale mining, aggregates, industrial minerals, manufacturing, or other process-driven operations.
  • Proven experience leading operations, maintenance, safety, and financial performance through subordinate leaders.
  • Strong understanding of fixed plant operations, equipment reliability, maintenance systems, and operational process flow.
  • Experience building high-performing teams and creating cultures centered on safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, operating costs, productivity metrics, and business performance.
  • Ability to drive organizational change, standardization, and continuous improvement across multiple operating locations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to relocate to the Midland/Odessa region and ability to travel regularly to all operating locations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial), Business, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combinations of education and relevant leadership experience will be considered.

  • Drive preventive and predictive maintenance programs that reduce downtime and improve performance.
  • Lead structured problem-solving and root cause analysis for recurring operational and equipment issues.
  • Ensure maintenance planning, inventory strategies, and resource allocation align with operational priorities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop plant managers, maintenance managers, and site leadership teams.
  • Build leadership capability through talent development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Align organizational skills, structure, and resources to support current and future business needs.
  • Foster employee engagement, development, and retention across all operating locations.
  • Deliver operational and financial commitments through effective cost management and resource allocation.

  • Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance and scalability.
  • Implement technologies, automation, and data tools that improve safety, reliability, productivity, and decision-making.
  • Leverage operational data and reporting to strengthen performance visibility and operational effectiveness.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and best practices that advance Atlas' long-term operating model and competitiveness.
  • Provides direct supervision to assigned employees, including responsibility for work assignments, performance management, coaching and development, and input into hiring, disciplinary, and compensation decisions
