About The Position

Serve as the public face and lead advocate for the museum. Develop and execute strategies to maintain public relevance and secure funding. Recruit, train, and manage a network of volunteers and supporters. Assume full responsibility for the professional stewardship of historical artifacts, including all accessioning/deaccessioning, documentation, preventive conservation, and adherence to collections. Navigate state government structures, including procurement, compliance, records retention, and financial reporting. Manage the day-to-day operations of the facility independently. Develop and facilitate all educational programming, deliver tours, and manage visitor services. Maintain and refresh interpretive exhibits to engage diverse audiences. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Nebraska National Guard leadership, veterans, donors, educators, and community partners. Act as the primary fundraiser and brand ambassador. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, anthropology, museum studies or other related field and experience in historical research and editing.
  • Background/motor vehicle check will be required.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of Nebraska history, historical events and their causes and effects on civilizations and cultures.
  • Ability to make generalizations and draw valid conclusions based on evidence relating to historical context and communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
