About The Position

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is seeking a highly motivated Director of Mediation to join the Health Care Division within the Health Care & Fair Competition Bureau. The Health Care Division is dedicated to promoting health care access, affordability, and equity by enforcing laws such as the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act (M.G.L. c. 93A). The Division's recent litigation has addressed critical issues including drug pricing, the opioid crisis, marketing practices of health care providers and insurers, and challenges to federal actions impacting the Commonwealth. The Mediation Unit, part of the Health Care Division, handles thousands of consumer complaints annually concerning health care providers, insurance companies, and other entities in the health care sector. Mediators in this unit provide information, make referrals, and facilitate an informal resolution process for these complaints.

Requirements

  • At least seven (7) years of health law, consumer law, mediation, community engagement, consumer complaint handling, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Excellent writing, analysis, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage workflows, and structure, analyze, and report out data.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex legal, business, and financial concepts.
  • Ability to collaborate and represent the Office with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and work with a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the public interest.
  • Demonstrated connection to the people and communities served.
  • Interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in health care is desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Mediate complaints.
  • Manage the activities of the mediation unit, including assisting mediators and managing mediation workflows.
  • Respond to constituent inquiries.
  • Assist the Division Chief in performance planning for Mediation Unit staff.
  • Work closely with the Division’s Chief and Deputy Chief on Mediation Unit operations, including policies, procedures, training materials, templates, and reporting related to consumer complaint data.
  • Collaborate with other AGO Divisions and government agencies.
  • Participate in community engagement.
  • Represent the Office with internal and external stakeholders.
