About The Position

The Director of Mechanical Services Engineering is an opportunity to join PM Group’s growing Philadelphia area leadership team based in Conshohocken, PA. Together we are sharing knowledge, learning, growing, and continuing to be an integral part of supporting PM Group’s ongoing expansion in the US. Our office is executing cutting-edge projects for Pharmaceutical, Biologics and Cell & Gene Therapy, manufacturing facilities – from feasibility through to qualification – for both local and international clients. Together with our clients and partners, we will deliver projects that improve the everyday lives of people across the globe. The successful candidate will lead and develop a team of Mechanical Services Engineers (HVAC, black utilities, plumbing, and fire protection) while maintaining technical oversight of life sciences mechanical services design. The role is accountable for the quality and coordination of HVAC, black utilities, plumbing, compressed gas systems, and associated controls across all phases of design, including feasibility studies, conceptual and schematic design, construction documentation, procurement support, construction administration, commissioning, and qualification support. Projects will include new construction and improvements to existing facilities. This leader will establish clear technical direction, allocate resources, review critical deliverables, guide complex engineering decisions, and ensure work is delivered in alignment with client requirements, applicable codes and standards, design intent, budget, and schedule. The Director will also serve as a senior client contact and represent PM Group’s Mechanical Services Engineering capability in proposals, presentations, and project pursuits. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 15+ Years of mechanical design experience in an engineering or design firm, including significant Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Biologics, and/or Cell & Gene Therapy project experience.
  • Proven success leading Mechanical Engineering teams and overseeing multiple complex projects.
  • Expertise in mechanical and building services design for GMP manufacturing, cleanrooms, laboratories, and utility-intensive facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of technical deliverables, multidisciplinary coordination, and applicable mechanical, HVAC, black utilities, plumbing, sustainability, and life-safety codes and standards.
  • Strong client, communication, presentation, decision-making, organizational, resource planning, budget, and schedule management skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, inclusion, environmental responsibility, and professional integrity.
  • Ability to travel as needed; anticipated less than 20%.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in HAP, AutoCAD, and Revit is preferred.
  • LEED accreditation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the local Mechanical Services Design team and contribute to U.S. leadership priorities.
  • Plan resources, allocate work, and support recruitment, onboarding, performance, succession, and capability development.
  • Mentor engineers, set clear expectations, and promote technical excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Assign technical ownership and reviews based on project risk, complexity, schedule, and team capability.
  • Set technical direction and governance for HVAC, black utilities, plumbing, compressed gas, and building control systems.
  • Review and approve design criteria, calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, P&IDs, equipment selections, and procurement packages.
  • Maintain discipline standards, quality controls, review processes, and compliance with regulatory, client, safe asset management, and environmental requirements.
  • Resolve complex design, constructability, integration, and field issues.
  • Oversee mechanical services engineering from feasibility and concept through detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Define scope, deliverables, staffing, budget, and schedule; monitor performance and address risks.
  • Direct equipment packages, bid evaluations, vendor coordination, design reviews, and factory acceptance testing.
  • Support construction administration, field reviews, system testing, and verification of design intent.
  • Build trusted client relationships and represent PM Group as a senior mechanical services engineering leader.
  • Communicate technical direction, risks, decisions, and recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Support proposals, scopes, fee estimates, presentations, interviews, and project pursuits.
  • Coordinate across disciplines, U.S. and global offices, consultants, vendors, and contractors to deliver integrated designs.
