About The Position

As the Director of Engineering – Mechanical, you will provide technical and strategic leadership for utility-scale gas power generation projects. A typical day involves collaborating with engineering, estimating, procurement, construction, and project management teams to guide engineering decisions, review designs, identify risks, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with client expectations. Projects may include gas turbine facilities, combined cycle power plants, balance of plant systems, substations, and utility infrastructure. In this role, you'll also focus on developing people and processes by mentoring engineers, establishing engineering standards, supporting project pursuits, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You'll serve as a key technical resource for the organization while helping build and lead a high-performing engineering team that supports the growth of Blattner's Gas Power Generation business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
  • Registered Professional Engineering license required and/or in the process of completing.
  • 10 or more years of applicable experience related to utility scale gas power generation projects OR mechanical engineering experience required.
  • 7 or more years of leadership experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading engineering teams supporting gas turbine, combined cycle, or utility-scale power generation facilities.
  • Strong mechanical engineering background involving rotating equipment, pumps, piping systems, heat exchangers, cooling systems, and balance of plant infrastructure.
  • Utility-scale power generation, industrial EPC, or energy infrastructure experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the program engineering representative during the owner project definition and estimating phase.
  • Interacts and establishes positive relationships with gas power generation engineering firms, industry manufacturers and equipment providers.
  • Fosters client relationships, idea propagation, and problem solving.
  • Exhibits commitment to client relationships by nurturing client ideas, goals and brainstorming.
  • Direct and manage engineering activities by creating detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration between the client and the organization’s technical activities.
  • Creates partnership with clients to ensure both internal and external design standards and philosophies align with similar processes.
  • Recommends and participates in creating operational goals and plans for the engineering department.
  • Influences strategies to achieve results and obtains responsibility to execute on commitments.
  • Lead and develop mechanical engineering teams supporting gas power generation projects.
  • Establish engineering standards, processes, and best practices across the organization.
  • Provide technical oversight for mechanical systems, balance of plant infrastructure, and power generation facilities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, estimating, procurement, construction, and project management teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review engineering designs, specifications, calculations, and technical deliverables.
  • Support project pursuits, proposal development, risk assessments, and constructability reviews.
