About The Position

As a well-established, growth-oriented commercial HVAC and plumbing contractor, we are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead our HVAC and plumbing design efforts. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and strong communication to ensure high-quality designs, smooth project execution, and continuous improvement across the Projects team. The ideal candidate is organized, code-savvy, and capable of developing people, standards, and processes.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
7+ years of mechanical engineering experience
Strong communication and relationship skills with a collaborative leadership style
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical design and drafting function, setting clear expectations for quality, standards, and delivery
Train and mentor team members on HVAC and plumbing design principles and best practices
Partner with the Projects and Service teams to improve mechanical knowledge, execution, and consistency
Oversee HVAC and plumbing design from concept through construction support
Collaborate with owners, architects, and design partners to define requirements and develop system concepts
Perform and oversee thermal load calculations and energy analysis
Review awarded projects for value engineering and cost-savings opportunities
Support equipment selection and review shop drawings and submittals as required
Maintain current knowledge of mechanical and plumbing code requirements and communicate updates internally
Establish and enforce drawing standards and quality-control review processes
Stay current on tools, technologies, and industry standards through ongoing professional development
