About The Position

Anthropologie is seeking a Director of Marketing to cover a 6-month maternity leave for the Sr. Director, Digital Marketing & Paid Media. This role has the potential to transition into a permanent Director position, focusing on establishing and leading a formal media planning function across the marketing organization. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly step in, lead with confidence, and improve the organization. This involves managing the team's strategic direction during the transition and building a rigorous, integrated media planning discipline that connects channel investment to business strategy, customer insight, and cross-functional priorities in a scalable manner. Currently, media planning is distributed across various marketing disciplines, leading to inconsistencies in planning, allocation, forecasting, and evaluation. This role aims to unify these efforts. During the maternity leave coverage, the Director will manage three Sr. Managers overseeing a 27-person team responsible for paid search, SEO, display, paid social, affiliate, performance influencer, and brand outbound channels (email, app push, SMS). The focus is on building connective tissue to enhance the overall marketing organization's effectiveness. This is a builder and leadership role, not solely a channel expert or passive coverage role.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years in media planning, marketing strategy, or integrated planning roles.
  • Meaningful experience managing managers (people who have run channel teams, not just channels).
  • Deep expertise in media planning as a discipline, including building plans, processes, and teams.
  • Fluency across paid digital (search, social, display, affiliate, influencer) and outbound/lifecycle channels (email, push, SMS).
  • Experience working with measurement frameworks (MMM, incrementality, forecasting) from a planning seat.
  • Genuine executive presence, with the ability to independently lead senior leadership conversations.
  • Strong people-leadership instincts, specifically around coaching leaders through developmental gaps.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and building from scratch.
  • Retail marketing experience and an understanding of how brand and performance work together across the customer lifecycle.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience standing up or formalizing a media planning function within a larger marketing organization.
  • Experience as a second-in-command or deputy leader within a scaled marketing team.
  • Background leading through a planned leadership transition or extended absence.

Responsibilities

  • Establish media planning as a formal discipline within the Digital Marketing organization.
  • Define what a great media plan looks like at Anthropologie.
  • Build frameworks and processes for consistent media plan production.
  • Create a shared planning language across all marketing functions.
  • Develop integrated planning frameworks connecting paid, owned, and outbound channels.
  • Build a knowledge-sharing infrastructure for plans at all levels.
  • Establish clear planning calendars, briefing processes, and cross-channel alignment rituals.
  • Bridge the gap between analytics outputs (MMM, incrementality, forecasting) and channel team planning/allocation.
  • Create standards for evaluating media plans and their effectiveness.
  • Partner with Finance and analytics on investment planning, forecasting, and reforecasting.
  • Manage the workflow of three Sr. Managers, each overseeing a portfolio of channels.
  • Provide hands-on coaching to Sr. Managers in work prioritization, executive communication, and managing up/across.
  • Hold the standard for leadership across the broader team, including feedback, authority, and leading through ambiguity.
  • Translate integrated media plans and channel performance into clear business narratives for senior leadership.
  • Represent the marketing organization fully during the maternity leave period, including team management and cross-functional relationships.
  • Build executive trust and credibility quickly.
  • Partner closely with Brand, Creative, Social, Merchandising, Analytics, and Finance to build integrated plans.
