About The Position

A member of the leadership team, reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer. The Director of Manufacturing and New Product Development position directs all manufacturing operations (on property and outsourced) through a team of functional managers and supervisors. Ensures increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while improving the efficiency of manpower, materials and machines, and is ultimately responsible for 60+ employees (multi-shifts). Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred, and several years of progressive manufacturing experience (blown film / plastic packaging conversion experience a plus).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred; ten + year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, project management software, and the Microsoft Office Suite of business products (emphasis on Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of associates by providing performance targets, periodic assessment and feedback, and professional and technical development
  • Coordinates production, quality assurance, engineering, maintenance and new product development activities in accordance with policies, principles, and procedures.
  • Develops and implements plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
  • Reviews production costs and product quality and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation.
  • Manages policy deployment in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques, quality, cost reduction and optimization, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls and plant performance measures.
  • Manages new product development design, testing and production scaling, working closely with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain and Finance.
  • Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.
  • Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.
  • Ensures compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, product safety, workplace safety (OSHA and MiOSHA), and complete and on-time delivery at optimal cost.
  • Analysis, investment justification, and implementation of capital projects and process improvement projects.
  • Balances work cell capacity/loading across the plant.
  • Determines headcount needs and ensures compliance with company policies.
  • Develop and maintain the relevant control activities in compliance with the British Retail Consortium (BRC)
  • Manages compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Manages subordinate managers and supervisors with responsibility for over 60 employees in production, engineering, maintenance, quality assurance and workplace safety.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
