About The Position

You will be the Director, Management and Professional Liability Claims. In this capacity you will be responsible for all matters regarding the execution of Management and Professional Liability claims activities, settlement processing and investigation of reported claims in compliance with the terms of each individual insurance/reinsurance contract, business best practice, regulatory requirements and Company rules for SiriusPoint’s North American MGA and Programs group. This role will also manage claim handling for Bermuda-based MGA and Programs. The successful candidate will be able to navigate a changing environment as we take the claims function into the future by aligning with SiriusPoint’s new strategic journey. This role will contribute to our growing claims team by bringing technical acumen and experience to handling a wide variety of MGA and Programs who underwrite Management and Professional Liability portfolios. You will report directly to the Head of North America MGA & Programs Claims.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years’ worth of experience handling Management and Professional Liability claims with a grant of authority of USD $250k or greater.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of the claims process within the insurance industry
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to operate independently within grants of authority but have the experience and judgement to reach out for help and guidance on matters where assistance is needed.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with senior level executives on a day-to-day basis and during internal or external meetings
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills in English is required and possessing the same skills in other languages is helpful, but not required
  • Have an interest in knowledge sharing within the claims team and a willingness to support a global effort to support our business as subject matter experts in claims
  • J.D. degree from an accredited University. Licensed attorneys with claims experience are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight claims advocacy of Management and Professional Liability excess claims. The first level claims managers will be in-house MGA or Programs claims teams or Third-Party Administrators.
  • Analyze forms, policies, endorsements, special handling instructions and other pertinent documents in order to validate coverage.
  • Manage claims in litigation with an eye toward protection of reputational risk and prevention of bad faith allegations. Possess a comfort level with fast-paced and time sensitive claim negotiation.
  • Approve claims according to authority, company rules, and/or local regulatory requirements
  • Advise the business on claims trends and loss mitigation (Program Management, Underwriting, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Finance and Actuarial functions).
  • Possess a deep understanding of reserving accuracy and estimating with varying degrees of information available. The ability to articulate reserving practice and analysis used to arrive at a reserve is of paramount importance.
  • Responsible for accuracy and adequacy of all aspects of claims reserving, and coverage assessment.
  • Establish, maintain and develop contacts with the MGA and Program partners, brokers, ceding companies, lawyers and loss adjusters in connection with claims matters.
  • Treat our broad range of customers fairly and professionally in all interactions
  • The scope of our D&O work is public and private corporations, including non-profits.
  • Travel within US and Internationally likely.
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.
