Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Business, Public Policy, Public Health or related field and 10 years of relevant experience in political and policy arenas required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience in federal government, particularly interacting with Congress and/or a federal research agency preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops policies and programs to ensure organizational awareness of government legislation and/or regulatory issues that affect the organization and respond to same.
  • Ensures that the organization's interests are represented and protected in legislative proceedings and in the development of market rules and procedures.
  • Prepares and organizes forums and gatherings with government officials to exchange ideas and information on business activities and potential legislation that may affect the organization.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on regulatory matters with regard to product changes.
  • Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues.
  • Recommends process, product or service improvements.
  • Contributes to the development of functional strategy.
  • Leads teams or projects with broad visibility to achieve milestones and objectives.
  • Advances the strategic interests of the University and builds and maintains close relationships with external government agencies and stakeholders.
  • Maintains and strengthens relationships with community organizations and neighborhood groups, regularly attending and representing the University at meetings, promoting mutual understanding and collaboration on local and community issues, and community-engaged scholarship, programs, and services.
  • Serves as a liaison between the University and the community and assists and advises University leadership, students, staff, and faculty on a myriad of topics, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Develops and executes advocacy strategies and community-building activities.
  • Facilitates meetings as needed with elected officials and organizations.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports legislative and regulatory activities in government bodies impacting the University and develops associated memoranda, briefings, and correspondence.
  • Ensures compliance with local and state lobbying rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.
