About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs for Student Success and Belonging, the Director of LGBT Student Services (LGBTSS) provides leadership for programs and services that support LGBTQIA + students and advance the education of the whole person within an intercultural campus community. The Director works collaboratively within the Student Success and Belonging cluster in the Division of Student Affairs, and in partnership with other student affairs departments and academic affairs to develop and implement intercultural student development programs that serve the broader LMU community. Central to this role is the development of student leadership, expanding access to resources, and advancing student retention and persistence to graduation. The Director serves as an advocate, educator, mentor, and program leader for students representing all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Requirements

  • Typically, a master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, gender studies, or a related field is required, supplemented by coursework in program development and student services.
  • The incumbent is expected to continuously update knowledge, skills, and abilities to remain current with university and federal regulations and policies.
  • A minimum of two years of related progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in a higher education or public service environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Jesuit higher education and the University’s mission and Catholic tradition.
  • Considerable knowledge of student outcomes assessment (including LGBTQIA+ student experiences), program evaluation, strategic planning, and leadership theory is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment; analyze data and prepare reports to inform decision-making; and interact effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate special projects; collaborate with faculty and administrators at all levels; and facilitate leadership development for students.
  • Proven ability to prepare clear, comprehensive reports, maintain accurate records, and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills, including experience preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries that synthesize complex or technical information.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard office and student information systems and other relevant technology tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary resource and support for students of all sexual orientations and gender identities by fostering an inclusive, welcoming and affirming environment.
  • Provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the Office of LGBT Student Services, including program development, implementation and assessment.
  • Promotes equity, visibility, and inclusion of LGBTQIA + students across the LMU community through advocacy, outreach, and individual student support.
  • Develops and delivers educational programs and resources on sexual orientation and gender identity for the campus community.
  • Collaborates with Student Affairs and campus partners to create programming, student development initiatives, and leadership opportunities.
  • Leads and executes signature LGBTQIA+ programs (e.g. Trans Day of Remembrance, Rainbow week, Pride Month, LGBT History Month, Lavender Grad Celebration, Queer Closet Clothing Drive, National Coming Out Day).
  • Provides leadership development opportunities for students and advises multiple Registered Student Organizations supporting LGBTQIA+ community and engagement.
  • Facilitates dialogue on the intersections of sexual orientation, gender identity, faith, religion, and culture grounded in LMU’s Jesuit and Marymount traditions.
  • Actively participates in and partners with the LGBTQIA+ Faculty Staff Network to strengthen community, support, and engagement among Employees.
  • Collaborates across departments to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives for LGBTQIA+ students.
  • Advises, mentors, and supports students through one-on-one engagement (including referrals and case management as appropriate), maintaining accurate records using divisional systems.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively engage students in conversations around identity, gender, and community to support student success
  • Conducts assessment, compiles and analyzes data, and maintains program reports and metrics for internal and external reporting.
  • Serves as a lead or key contributor to intercultural initiatives within Student Success & Belonging and across the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Serves as a liaison for the Division in campus-wide collaborations related to LGBTQIA+ student support and inclusion.
  • Demonstrates good stewardship and budget management skills and prepares various reports for division-level and institution-wide senior leadership (e.g. weekly program updates; mid-year and annual reports; Board of Trustee reports; budget summaries).
  • Maintains confidentiality in handling sensitive student, personnel, and institutional matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Salary range $78,600.00 - $102,200.00
