About The Position

The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) protects and enhances the daily economic lives of New Yorkers to create thriving communities. DCWP licenses nearly 45,000 businesses in more than 40 industries and enforces key consumer protection and workplace laws that apply to countless more. By supporting businesses through equitable enforcement and access to resources, DCWP protects the marketplace from predatory practices and strives to create a culture of compliance. DCWP empowers consumers and working families by providing the tools and resources they need to achieve financial health and work-life balance. DCWP also conducts research and advocates for public policy that furthers its work to support New York City’s communities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising subordinate staff to conduct and interpret research/data, monitor legislation, and propose legislation impacting issues around consumer protection, worker protection, and financial empowerment in New York City
  • Coordinating with DCWP’s divisional leadership on research efforts, including data analysis, legislation and advocacy
  • Leading DCWP’s participation in public hearings before legislative or regulatory bodies, including drafting public testimony that leverages data analysis to outline the agency’s policy positions
  • Liaising with the Mayor’s Office, including the offices for city, state, and federal legislative affairs, to advance proactive legislation and policy proposals
  • Establishing and building relationships with key government agencies, research/data and advocacy organizations, and other social science experts related to DCWP’s legislative agenda
  • Drafting reports and maintaining records/data, as well as managing other special projects or tasks, as needed
  • Directing DCWP’s efforts to request, gather, and transcribe public comments on proposed DCWP rules
