About The Position

Stord is seeking a Director of Learning & Development to build the company's enterprise learning function from the ground up. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives with autonomy, can move quickly from idea to execution, and partners closely with department leaders to deliver training that drives real results. Stord operates at the intersection of technology and high-growth commerce, requiring teams to onboard quickly, ramp to productivity rapidly, and stay sharp as the product evolves. The near-term focus will be on building enterprise onboarding programs for new hires, creating scalable training tracks for employees joining through acquisitions, and establishing the systems to support the function. Success will be measured by time-to-productivity, engagement, and retention. Long term, this role is foundational for a broader organizational development function at Stord, offering a significant growth opportunity for the right individual to shape and lead the function they create.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in Learning & Development, with at least 3 years owning a training function or program portfolio end-to-end.
  • Demonstrated success designing and scaling a training program from an early stage, including standing up an L&D function, building content from scratch, and creating repeatable processes without a large team behind you.
  • Instinctively design for multiple modalities - video, scenario-based exercises, job aids, live facilitation, microlearning - and know how to match the right strategy to the content and the audience.
  • Hands-on experience designing and developing programs built around practical application - not just knowledge transfer. Know how to translate complex processes and product capabilities into training that sticks, and build with the end user's workflow in mind.
  • Self-starter who cranks out exceptional work — creative, resourceful, and energized by solving hard problems independently. Have a genuine passion for L&D and building learning functions that scale, and thrive in environments where you’re building the plane while flying it.
  • Skilled at partnering with and influencing department leaders and subject matter experts. Can navigate competing priorities, earn trust across functions, and get things done without direct authority.
  • Measure the impact of what you build. Know what good looks like for time-to-competency, completion rates, and knowledge retention — and use that data to improve.
  • Hands-on experience building and delivering learning content using Claude or other AI tools to accelerate content creation and enhance the training experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or Certification in Learning & Development; Instructional Design; Learning, Design, & Technology, or a related field.
  • Workday Learning proficiency a huge plus

Responsibilities

  • Build the Foundation: Design and implement a centralized L&D framework for Stord's enterprise teams, establishing the governance, standards, and systems to ensure consistent, repeatable training delivery. Own Workday Learning, define best practices, and serve as the internal expert on how learning is designed and delivered at Stord.
  • Own & Evolve Onboarding: Continuously improve the onboarding foundation as the business scales, sharpening the experience, tightening consistency across teams and locations, and accelerating productivity ramp so new hires (including those joining through acquisitions) reach full contribution faster. Partner with department leaders to create and update content, ensuring every new team member has a clear, consistent path from day one to fully productive.
  • Partner Closely with Department Leaders: Collaborate with department heads and subject matter experts to identify skill gaps, develop relevant content, and keep training current as the business evolves. Operate as a trusted partner, not just a content producer, helping leaders think through how to build capability on their teams.
  • Measure What Matters: Define and track KPIs that prove the value of learning programs, including time-to-competency, knowledge retention, and training completion rates. Use data to continuously improve what's working and cut what isn't.
  • Build a Functional Training Team: Create and lead a training team dedicated to functional training across Sales, Customer Experience, and Product to support a scaling organization focused on quality and standardization. Define the team structure, hire the right people, and build the operating model that makes functional training consistent and repeatable as Stord grows.
