About The Position

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is seeking a highly organized, energetic, entrepreneurial, and revenue-driven Director of Leagues & Tournaments to lead the growth and operation of youth and adult soccer leagues, tournaments, and related competitive events. Driving participation, revenue, and profitability is a central responsibility of this position. The Director will actively recruit teams and participants, convert prospective customers into registrations, retain existing teams, identify new market opportunities, and develop competitive events that generate sustainable growth. The Director will oversee all aspects of planning and execution while building strong relationships with clubs, teams, coaches, players, referees, facilities, vendors, and community partners. The ideal candidate combines strong operational skills with a business-development mindset and takes ownership of measurable results.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business, recreation, communications, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience managing soccer leagues, tournaments, sports programs, events, sales, business development, or similar operations.
Demonstrated ability to recruit customers, generate registrations, grow revenue, and build relationships with clubs, teams, coaches, players, referees, and community partners.
Strong understanding of soccer and familiarity with youth and/or adult soccer environments.
Strong sales, organizational, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.
Demonstrated initiative and ability to identify, pursue, and convert opportunities for growth.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, registration, payment collection, and revenue management.
Ability to analyze sales, participation, retention, and financial information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to manage multiple programs, schedules, customers, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently, take ownership of results, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn registration, scheduling, financial, communication, and customer-management platforms.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
This is a full-time, exempt, in-office position based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Regular evening and weekend work and occasional holiday work are required.
Local travel to fields, facilities, meetings, and community events is required. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
The position requires working in active indoor and outdoor sports environments and varying weather conditions.
The employee must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and assist with moving, setting up, and breaking down event equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

Own participation, revenue, retention, and profitability goals for assigned programs.
Recruit teams, clubs, coaches, players, and participants through direct outreach, relationship development, follow-up, and sales efforts.
Build and manage a pipeline of prospective customers and convert opportunities into completed registrations.
Develop annual participation, revenue, expense, and profitability goals and provide regular forecasts against those goals.
Create strategies to increase registrations, team retention, repeat participation, and program revenue.
Identify and launch new leagues, tournaments, divisions, formats, combines, showcases, and other competitive offerings based on market demand and financial potential.
Develop pricing, registration timelines, promotions, and sales strategies designed to maximize participation and profitability.
Build lasting relationships with youth clubs, adult teams, schools, coaches, soccer organizations, and community partners.
Monitor sales, registration, participation, retention, revenue, expenses, and other performance indicators and use the information to guide decisions.
Plan, develop, schedule, and execute youth and adult leagues, tournaments, and other competitive soccer events.
Own the operational calendar, including registration, scheduling, staffing, facilities, communications, game-day logistics, and event closeout.
Develop competition formats, divisions, schedules, rules, procedures, eligibility requirements, and contingency plans.
Serve as a primary point of contact for clubs, teams, coaches, players, referees, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Coordinate referees, event staff, vendors, facilities, and Riverhounds departments to ensure smooth execution.
Oversee event setup, team check-in, competition management, score reporting, standings, awards, and breakdown as applicable.
Resolve scheduling, competition, staffing, facility, and participant issues promptly and professionally.
Review participant feedback, operational results, and financial performance to improve future events.
Secure and allocate fields and facilities, including permits, rental agreements, access, setup, maintenance, and event readiness.
Manage facility schedules, field allocation, cancellations, postponements, and rescheduling.
Ensure all competitions comply with applicable governing-body requirements, competition rules, player-eligibility standards, safeguarding policies, insurance requirements, background checks, and Riverhounds risk-management procedures.
Develop and maintain emergency-action, severe-weather, cancellation, rescheduling, and incident-reporting procedures.
Maintain safe, clean, and properly prepared playing environments and address safety or facility concerns promptly.
Maintain required records relating to eligibility, waivers, insurance, incidents, staff credentials, and participant safety.
Manage program budgets, expenses, and financial performance while identifying opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
Develop event and annual revenue, expense, participation, and profitability projections.
Manage registration payments, collections, refunds, credits, outstanding balances, vendor invoices, and event reconciliation in coordination with the finance department.
Maintain accurate financial records and complete timely event-level reconciliations.
Evaluate pricing and expenses and recommend adjustments that improve customer value, participation, and profitability.
Follow all Riverhounds financial controls, approval requirements, purchasing procedures, and recordkeeping standards.
Work with Riverhounds marketing and communications personnel to promote leagues, tournaments, registration opportunities, schedules, results, and events.
Develop promotional plans and provide accurate program information, pricing, deadlines, and schedules for marketing campaigns.
Maintain relationships with clubs, schools, community organizations, sponsors, and strategic partners that support program growth.
Identify cross-promotional opportunities with other Riverhounds programs and organizational initiatives.
Represent the Riverhounds professionally at events, meetings, competitions, and community activities.
Recruit, schedule, train, and manage event staff, contractors, volunteers, and other personnel as needed.
Establish clear roles, procedures, performance expectations, and service standards for event personnel.
Provide hands-on, on-site leadership during events, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Maintain accurate registration, sales, participation, financial, scheduling, and customer records.
Communicate schedules, rules, procedures, updates, and cancellations clearly and promptly.
Respond professionally to questions, concerns, sales inquiries, and operational issues.
Prepare regular reports covering sales activity, participation, retention, revenue, expenses, profitability, and event performance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
