Director Of IT

Wall Recycling•Raleigh, NC
•$120,000 - $140,000•Onsite

About The Position

Waste Eliminator and Liberty Waste Solutions are growing, acquisition-driven waste services companies operating across the Southeast. We are seeking a hands-on Director of IT to own technology for both organizations: infrastructure, cybersecurity, business systems, and the integration of newly acquired companies. This is a working leadership role. You will lead a small team of two IT staff plus a group of third-party providers, and you will be expected to roll up your sleeves on infrastructure, security, and systems work while also setting direction, managing budgets, and building the processes that let a small team support a growing, multi-location business. You will be a trusted partner to finance and operations leadership, and the first call when we acquire a company and need it up and running on our systems. The role requires regular travel to company locations across the Southeast.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years leading IT teams.
  • Hands-on experience across infrastructure, networking, cloud, and endpoint management, and with building or maintaining a cybersecurity program.
  • Experience owning enterprise business applications (ERP, CRM, or similar) and working with business stakeholders on process and reporting.
  • Experience managing vendors, contracts, and budgets.
  • Ability to travel regularly within the Southeast.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating acquired businesses (IT due diligence, migrations, cutovers).
  • Experience in waste management, transportation, logistics, or fleet operations.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, or ADP.
  • Microsoft 365, Azure, SharePoint, and Power BI experience.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ITIL, PMP, or Azure certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technology side of every acquisition, from due diligence through cutover: assessing the target’s infrastructure, security posture, and systems, and identifying risks and costs early.
  • Build and continuously refine a repeatable integration playbook covering network and connectivity, identity and email, endpoints, phones, security baseline, and migration into NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, and ADP.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Operations, and HR to meet integration timelines with minimal disruption to routes, dispatch, billing, and payroll.
  • Oversee networks, servers, cloud services, endpoints, and communications across all locations, including yards, shops, and offices.
  • Ensure availability and performance of operationally critical systems, especially those supporting dispatch, routing, and billing.
  • Maintain and regularly test backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
  • Establish support standards (ticketing, response targets, documentation) and improve the end-user support experience.
  • Define a coverage plan for after-hours critical issues, shared across the team and key vendors.
  • Establish, document, and maintain the security program for both companies, including policies, access controls, multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection, logging, and monitoring.
  • Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability management, and security awareness training.
  • Lead incident response planning and execution, including tabletop exercises.
  • Meet applicable requirements, including cyber insurance conditions, customer contract security terms, payment card (PCI) obligations, privacy and breach notification laws, and any transportation or fleet data requirements.
  • Work with a managed security provider or virtual CISO where independent oversight or additional capacity is needed.
  • Serve as the executive owner of NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, and ADP, working with business process owners and vendors to optimize configuration, security, and user adoption.
  • Lead and maintain integrations between systems, and improve data quality and reporting for operations, finance, and sales.
  • Identify automation opportunities that reduce manual effort and improve visibility.
  • Manage vendor relationships, SLAs, and contracts; review and consolidate vendors where it improves service or cost.
  • Plan, prioritize, and deliver technology projects on time and within budget, with clear communication to stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach, and develop two IT team members; set clear expectations, priorities, and cross-training so critical knowledge is not held by one person.
  • Promote a service-oriented culture and accountability for outcomes.
  • Develop and manage the annual IT operating and capital budgets, with cost allocation across both companies.
  • Evaluate ROI and identify cost-saving opportunities, including license and contract optimization.
  • Develop and execute an IT strategy and roadmap aligned to company growth and acquisition goals.
  • Partner with the CFO and operating leadership to prioritize investments, and report regularly on risk, performance, and project status.
  • Complete a baseline assessment of infrastructure, security, and vendor performance across both companies, with a prioritized remediation plan.
  • Document and deliver the first version of the acquisition integration playbook, and apply it to the next acquisition.
  • Standardize identity, endpoint, and security controls across both companies.
  • Validate backup and disaster recovery for critical systems through an actual restore test.
  • Review and rationalize key vendor contracts and define service levels.
  • Document system integrations and ownership for NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, and ADP.
