About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Director of International Student and Scholar Compliance to oversee international student and scholar services and lead the international student and scholar advising team. This role reports to the Senior Executive Director of UNLV Global and collaborates with various university offices to enhance the experience of international students and scholars and promote UNLV's international mission. The Director is responsible for facilitating the arrival and regulatory compliance of scholars and students, processing immigration requests, coordinating permanent residency petitions, and implementing policies for the efficient hiring and retention of international faculty/staff. This position serves as the authorized signatory for UNLV-sponsored immigration petitions and oversees client services, including supervising front-line staff and student assistants. The Director also supports international student recruitment, retention, and graduation efforts, and provides regulatory compliance oversight for immigration processing and SEVIS reporting. A key requirement for this role is being a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident. The Director leads special projects and acts with authority over ISSC functions in the absence of the Sr Executive Director, embodying UNLV's values and vision. This position contributes to Academic Affairs' core mission of increasing enrollment and promoting equitable student success, aligning with Top Tier initiatives and the SVPAA mission by setting annual goals and tracking metrics. The role is expected to remove barriers to student success, ensure equitable access to resources, eliminate achievement gaps, and provide outstanding services. Administrative faculty positions, especially leadership roles, may require some evening and/or weekend work and occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • 3 - 5 years of experience as a Designated School Official (DSO), and/or Principal Designated School Officer (PDSO), and/or Responsible Officer (RO), and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
  • 3-5 years of experience working with international students and/or scholars in a compliance setting, preferably within a higher education institution
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working with international students and/or scholars in a higher education setting
  • 3-5 years of staff supervision
  • 1-3 years of management experience
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident in order to comply with the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State Regulations
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of international student and scholar services
  • Leadership of the international student and scholar advising team
  • Facilitating the arrival and regulatory compliance of scholars and students at UNLV
  • Processing student and scholar immigration requests

  • Implementing policies and business practices for the efficient hiring and retention of international faculty/staff in terms of federal regulations and university policies
  • Proactively improving and/or updating scholar services as regulatory changes occur
  • Serving as the authorized signatory for UNLV-sponsored immigration petitions, including those filed with outside immigration counsel
  • Overseeing the client services function of the Office of International Student & Scholar Compliance
  • Supervising front-line staff and student assistants
  • Assisting in international student services efforts in recruiting, retaining, and graduating international students
  • Providing support and regulatory compliance oversight to staff who manage all immigration processing and SEVIS reporting, including the DSOs in Admissions
  • Leading special projects assigned by the Sr Executive Director
  • Having authority over ISSC functions in the Sr Executive Director’s absence
  • Collaborating with the Senior Executive Director of UNLV Global to set annual goals that align with Top Tier initiatives and SVPAA mission
  • Identifying and tracking core metrics to assess success
