About The Position

SMITH MIDDLE SCHOOL is seeking a Director of Instruction. This role requires a visionary leader in public schools to work collaboratively with diverse students, staff, families, and communities to prepare learners for the 21st century. The position is a probationary/term contract for 210 days with a salary range of $74,291 (IA-5) based on experience, as set by the Board of Trustees.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university required
  • Appropriate standard administrator certification for the assignment required
  • Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL)/Instructional Leadership Development (ILD)
  • A minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
  • A visionary leader in public schools to work collaboratively with diverse students, staff, families, and communities to prepare learners for the 21st century.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a catalyst for innovation in curriculum development and instruction based on best and current practices.
  • Use the Cypress-Fairbanks Teacher Evaluation and Support System (CF-TESS) appropriately with teachers by systematically observing performance, recording observations, and conducting formative and end-of-year evaluations.
  • Work with other campus administrators to calibrate the (CF-TESS) system at the building level and ensure that all timelines are met.
  • Provide timely and specific feedback to the instructional staff, concerning the teaching/learning process and classroom management.
  • Work with the appropriate instructional personnel in establishing standards for acceptable levels of student achievement.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff to collect and analyze various data pertaining to student achievement.
  • Oversee and direct the use of student achievement data to recommend improvement in the design, materials, and implementation of the instructional program.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the campus improvement plan.
  • Assist in designing, implementing, and monitoring campus initiatives.
  • Guide and direct efforts of teacher leaders to ensure adherence to and focus on the District's standard expectations and campus priorities.
  • Deliver staff development that provides leadership growth opportunities for teachers.
  • Serve as a problem-solver for student learning needs and related instructional issues.
  • Guide and assist teachers in problem-solving related to students' learning needs, parent communications, and peer interactions.
  • Monitor teachers' lesson plans, grade books, student level changes, etc.
  • Oversee special programs and ensure that the campus has procedures established that comply with program rules, regulations, and professional development requirements.
  • Manage budgets associated with special programs including but not limited to HORIZONS, ESL, dyslexia, 504, etc.
  • Facilitate staff development related to the campus improvement plan and special program requirements.
  • Manage the reconciliation of district time equivalency (DTE), campus time equivalency (CTE), and staff compliance course requirements.
  • Assist in the development of the campus master schedule.
  • Provide assistance in hiring new staff and selecting teachers for leadership roles at the campus level.
  • Serve as a liaison with parents and community members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
