About The Position

The Director of Inpatient Nursing for the Bone & Joint Institute will provide strategic leadership in collaboration with the provider leadership team for Orthopedics, Hospitalist Medicine, Neuro Spine, Trauma, Podiatry, and Rehabilitation at Hartford Hospital. The Director, working collaboratively with physician leaders, the executive leadership team and relevant clinical and administrative leaders, will plan comprehensive programs and ensure that the highest level of quality patient centered care is delivered. Working closely with the Physician in Chief and VP of BJI, the Director will improve operating results across the service lines by creating an integrated service line business plan and operational metrics that align with the achievement of key hospital strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field and Master's Degree are required. One degree must be in nursing
  • Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut
  • Five plus years of progressive nursing leadership experience in an acute care setting
  • Experience in direct operational issues in a 24/7 clinical environment
  • Highly effective analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communications skills required - both written and verbal
  • Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization
  • A creative, forward-thinking leader with the proven ability to engage, coach and mentor direct reports, colleagues and other key stakeholders
  • A demonstrated track record designing strategies and delivering solutions in areas including, but not limited to, patient experience, patient safety, employee engagement and workflow redesign
  • The ability to work with diverse groups of physicians (voluntary/full-time, teaching/nonteaching) and appreciate their contributions to the strategic direction of the healthcare system

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to the Orthopedic Unit Managers in identifying resources required to achieve quality and safe patient care results.

  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and clinical protocols in alignment with hospital standards.
  • Ensures delivery of evidence-based nursing care in orthopedic surgical and non-surgical cases.

  • Provides team with clear expectations and feedback and encourages professional development, identifying opportunities for growth and ongoing education

  • Collaborates with administration, peers, colleagues and attending physicians regarding the patient care model with a focus on aligning nursing practice to ensure consistency and continuity across the organization
  • Collaborates with medical staff, physical therapy, and case management to optimize patient outcomes
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission as well as State, local and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Consults with recommendations from professional bodies to ensure evidence-based practice
