About The Position

Director of Human Resources Manages the development and coordination of university-wide Human Resource activity. Maintains and enhances the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices. Acts as a strategic partner across the University in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion; talent and culture development; engagement and experience; employee relations and retention; compensation, rewards and recognition; and employee benefits.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current human resources best practices, extensive experience in organizational behavior, employee relations, compensation, benefits and employee development, a commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of talent acquisition, performance management, training and development, compensation management and surveys, wage and hour law, labor law, legal compliance, benefits, EEO/AA guidelines, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, FLSA, FFCRA, HR information systems, investigations, prevention and awareness programs, and employee relations.
  • Higher Ed experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution and presentation skills, as well as ability to navigate HRIS systems and Paycom.
  • An ability to foster innovative and creative problem solving, strong listening and communication skills, a presence that builds trust, confidence and respect, and the ability to lead.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field, PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • At least five years’ experience in a generalist position or equivalent.
  • The ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • The ability to work with personnel at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates job requirements and job descriptions for accuracy across all positions.
  • Manages department personnel including hiring, training, and staff development.
  • Provides direct management, support, and resources for staff.
  • Accountable for ensuring clear definition of roles, communication of strategic and operational plans, results-oriented operations, and performance management in areas of responsibility.
  • Creates and manages the HR budget.
  • Counsels managers on potential departmental hires; conducts and analyzes exit interviews.
  • Maintains employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends; recommends benefit programs to management; directs the processing of benefit claims; obtains and evaluates benefit contract bids; designs and conducts educational programs on benefit programs.
  • Serves as liaison to University management and staff to discuss and resolve a variety of human resources issues such as staffing, reorganization, policy and rule interpretation and related personnel issues.
  • Manages the performance evaluation process and provide guidance to managers on performance management issues.
  • Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Partners with administration and finance in analyzing department performance, budgets, and other performance targets.
