About The Position

The HR Compliance Director will be responsible for overseeing all activities as it relates to HR compliance for thyssenkrupp Materials NA (tkMNA), which operates in 40+ states with over 100 locations in the US and 5 provinces and 7 locations in Canada. This position will be responsible for leading an HR Compliance team, which will proactively identify monitor, and assess the Company’s HR Compliance initiatives including the HR investigation's function. This includes ensuring awareness of emerging compliance issues and proposing solutions or policy changes to mitigate risks for the organization. through process & policy development and trainings. This role will seek guidance from our internal counsel on policy and process changes. Additionally, this role will interact with top business executives within tkMNA as well as top HR leaders for each business to discuss high risk and/or high impact compliance situations to ensure alignment and awareness as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in HR, Business Administration or related field
  • 5 years of experience in HR Compliance (preferably in a large company) or similar role
  • 10 years of experience in Human Resources, including at least 3 years leading a multi functional team
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws
  • Experience creating, maintaining, and implementing HR Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to demonstrate strong business judgment skills
  • Successful track record of leading and implementing enterprise scale HR compliance initiatives and change management
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to communicate with C-Suite in a concise and clear manner
  • Ability to gain buy in and support for new initiatives
  • Experience with California HR Compliance

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of HR processes, practices, and records to identify compliance gaps or areas of improvement.
  • Monitor and address potential compliance issues, such as discrimination complaints, workplace safety concerns, or wage and hour violations.
  • Create a comprehensive risk management strategy for HR Practices.
  • Stay abreast of changes in local, state, federal regulations and update Company policies accordingly.
  • Proactively identify emerging compliance issues and propose solutions or policy changes to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel. as needed. to ensure compliance with local, state, and federals laws.
  • Collaborate with thyssenkrupp headquarters centers of excellence teams, such as finance, HR Operations, Leave Administration, Payroll, Compensation, Recruiting and HR Systems, to ensure alignment of HR practices with overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Review, develop, and establish cadence to manage compliance needs for the HR organization.
  • Create, track and report on key HR Compliance KPIs.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to HR compliance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance-related initiatives.
  • Oversight and audit responsibility for the company’s background checks, drug testing, and I-9 compliance programs.
  • Evaluate the results of compliance reports (California Pay Data Reporting, VEVVRAA, Section 503, etc) and communicate key findings to business HR.
  • Make recommendations on changes/updates to policies or practices to improve/guide results in a direction that aligns with compliance requirements and company initiatives.
  • Provide information and tools to various stakeholders including HRBPs, business leaders and employees to drive HR compliance with company policies and local, state, provincial, and federal laws.
  • Create and update company policies and employee handbooks to reflect changes in regulations and industry best practices.
  • Communicate policies effectively to employees and provide guidance on interpretation of company policy and compliance.
  • Lead a team that is responsible for HR investigations, employee relations, and California HR compliance.
  • Develop training content and lead delivery of compliance training sessions to ensure our HR teams are thoroughly prepared to support new and updated HR compliance policies and processes
  • Develop and deliver training programs for managers and employees to ensure understanding and compliance of HR policies and regulations.
  • Provide guidance and support to HR staff and managers on compliance-related matters as needed.
  • Account management for HR compliance vendors (pre-employment screening, employment poster, etc)
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive employee information and compliance-related matters.
  • Adhere to data privacy regulations and handle personal data securely.
  • Ability to tailor compliance processes to meet unique individual business unit needs to find optimal balance between risk mitigation and effective business operations
