About The Position

The Director of Human Resources & Compliance will oversee all aspects of human resources operations, employee compliance, payroll administration, benefits management, and workforce policies across the organization. This role will serve as the company’s internal expert on Gusto while building scalable HR infrastructure, ensuring compliance across multi-state operations, and supporting organizational growth. The ideal candidate is an experienced HR leader who thrives in fast-paced healthcare or startup environments and can balance strategic leadership with operational execution.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in HR, payroll, and compliance leadership roles
  • Strong expertise in managing payroll and HRIS systems using Gusto
  • Experience overseeing multi-state payroll and employment compliance
  • Strong understanding of HR operations, labor laws, payroll regulations, and benefits administration
  • Experience building scalable HR infrastructure in growing organizations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • High level of discretion in handling confidential employee information

  • Experience in healthcare, health tech, or startup environments
  • Experience supporting distributed and remote teams
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or related HR certification
  • Experience with compliance management and operational audits

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all HR operations, policies, and employee lifecycle processes
  • Develop and implement scalable HR systems, procedures, and best practices
  • Manage onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, and performance management initiatives
  • Partner with leadership on organizational planning, workforce strategy, and culture initiatives
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on HR matters and compliance risks
  • Own and manage full-cycle payroll processing using Gusto
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll for employees and contractors
  • Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, bonuses, reimbursements, and payroll reporting
  • Manage benefits administration, renewals, and employee support
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Oversee year-end payroll activities, including W-2s and 1099s
  • Lead HR and workforce compliance across multi-state operations
  • Maintain compliance with labor laws, employment regulations, HIPAA-related workforce requirements, and internal policies
  • Develop and maintain employee handbooks, SOPs, and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate audits, investigations, and internal compliance reviews
  • Monitor changes in employment law and proactively implement operational updates
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert for Gusto
  • Improve HR workflows through automation and systems optimization
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and Leadership teams
  • Develop HR and payroll reporting dashboards and operational metrics
