About The Position

The Director of Hardware Engineering provides strategic leadership and technical direction for Fluke’s hardware engineering organization. This role is responsible for long-term lifecycle management, world-class hardware development practices, engineering discipline maturity, and robust execution from concept through sustainment. The director ensures that hardware engineering delivers high-quality, reliable, and compliant solutions that differentiate Fluke’s test and measurement products. This leader strengthens functional capabilities, manages external engineering resources and SOWs, oversees component and supplier strategies, and ensures the long-term health and resilience of the hardware organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related hardware-focused field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10–15+ years of progressive hardware engineering experience, including 5–7+; years leading hardware teams.
  • Proven experience delivering complex electrical/electronic products through full lifecycle.
  • Experience with contractor management, staff augmentation models, and SOW-driven engagements.
  • Strong understanding of DFM/DFT, component engineering, regulatory compliance, and test methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead supplier relationships and contract manufacturers.
  • Excellent communication, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Experience in test & measurement, industrial, or high-reliability products is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full hardware engineering lifecycle—from architecture and requirements through design, verification, launch, sustainment, and end-of-life.
  • Establish and mature discipline-specific hardware engineering best practices across electrical, mechanical, PCB, and test engineering.
  • Serve as the senior hardware subject matter expert, ensuring strong alignment with systems, firmware, software, product management, and manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Develop long-term lifecycle strategies including component selection, obsolescence mitigation, and sustaining engineering.
  • Lead external staff augmentation, including SOW creation, negotiation, and quality governance.
  • Build organizational depth through technical mentorship, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Drive strategic supplier engagement to ensure component availability, cost optimization, and technology co-innovation.
  • Guide hardware capability investments and roadmap alignment with business strategy and future market needs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and engineering efficiency.
