About The Position

The Director of Global Policy & Research leads OpenMined's work at the intersection of frontier AI, data governance, and the public interest. This role involves owning research direction, setting the agenda on consequential questions in frontier AI, particularly data availability, access, and governance, and ensuring this work shapes the thinking of policymakers, civil society, and industry. The position also entails developing and communicating substantive policy proposals on data access, privacy-preserving AI, and adjacent issues, ensuring AI systems and their interactions with data are transparent, competitive, and rights-respecting. Additionally, the Director will work closely with engineering leadership to identify opportunities for deploying protocols in the public interest and ensure data networks are operated for public benefit. This is a management role requiring leadership of a team, building OpenMined's external profile in policy circles, and contributing to organizational strategy.
