About The Position

Fuse is building one of the most potentially consequential companies of the century with the mission to accelerate the world's transition to fusion energy while safeguarding humankind. This is not a normal company and not a normal job. The Director of FP&A will build the financial engine behind Fuse's next stage of growth. The company has raised institutional capital, operates multiple legal entities, works with U.S. government contracts, and is scaling a capital-intensive hardware company. The role will work directly with the CEO across planning, fundraising, capital allocation, government programs, and critical business decisions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience across Finance, FP&A, Strategic Finance, Investment Banking, or Private Equity.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, with the ability to build complex operating models from scratch.
  • Experience supporting executive leadership with strategic financial decisions.
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into simple, actionable insights.
  • Strong business judgment and exceptional analytical thinking.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Hands-on — willing to build models yourself, not just review someone else's work.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in deep tech, aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, or energy.
  • Experience supporting venture-backed companies through multiple fundraising rounds.
  • Government contracting, DoD, DOE, FAR, CAS, or DCAA experience.
  • Experience working with hardware businesses, capital-intensive operations, or long product development cycles.
  • Prior experience as the first Finance hire or building a finance function from scratch.
  • MBA, CFA, CPA, or equivalent financial background.

Responsibilities

  • Lead company-wide financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range strategic models.
  • Build and maintain operating models across multiple entities, including government and commercial businesses.
  • Partner directly with the CEO on fundraising strategy, board materials, investor reporting, and financing activities.
  • Manage cash forecasting, liquidity planning, and capital allocation across the business.
  • Develop KPI dashboards that help leadership make faster, better decisions.
  • Support pricing strategy, unit economics, contract profitability, and resource allocation.
  • Lead annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting across every department.
  • Build financial infrastructure that scales without slowing the company down.
  • Evaluate strategic investments, partnerships, government opportunities, and capital projects.
  • Partner closely with Accounting to ensure financial reporting supports operational decision-making.
  • Work alongside external banking partners, auditors, investors, and financing providers.
  • Help build the future Finance organization as the company grows.
