About The Position

The Director of Foundation Giving develops, implements, oversees, and evaluates all private foundation and government fundraising activities across the Area Command. This role focuses on strengthening relationships with foundation representatives and government entities to increase engagement and identify potential giving opportunities. The Director works closely with the programs team and Grants and Contracts Specialists to secure government funding and oversees the preparation of proposals and applications. They also support campaign fundraising efforts and manage the expenditure of granted funds, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related field, AND Seven years of successful foundation and fundraising experience OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License

Responsibilities

  • Directs the selection, training, and supervision of staff responsible for foundation giving and government grants.
  • Administers, leads, plans, and supervises Foundation Giving and government grants to increase donor engagement, programmatic accountability, and achieve fundraising goals.
  • Provides strong leadership to the Foundation Giving and grants teams to maximize their potential and stimulate motivation.
  • Mentors and leads the Grants Coordinator and Grants and Contracts Specialists to promote a cohesive and successful team.
  • Supervises the expenditure of granted funds and submission of progress and final reports.
  • Works with the finance department to ensure appropriate processes for monitoring and tracking grant-related revenues and costs.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates foundation giving and government grants strategies to achieve short- and long-range goals.
  • Communicates and coordinates with supervisors on the status and accomplishments of plans, goals, and objectives for foundation and government grant activities.
  • Leads a team to implement developed strategies and holds team members accountable for meeting fundraising goals and metrics.
  • Develops, prepares, and monitors monthly reports illustrating progress against goals.
  • Creates and maintains an active grants calendar and subsequent cultivation and solicitation strategy to grow funding from foundations.
  • Creates and maintains an active government grants calendar and subsequent cultivation and solicitation strategy to grow funding from government entities.
  • Ensures that Grants and Contract Specialists work with compliance and finance teams on reporting and invoicing for government grants and contracts.
  • Collaborates with other departments and Officers to determine possible budget-relieving funding opportunities and needs.
  • Develops and fosters relationships with foundation funders and finds personal connections to ensure their attention.
  • Develops and fosters relationships with government entities to ensure notification of potential funding opportunities and an understanding of Salvation Army programs.
  • Ensures the donor management system is maintained with accurate and complete profiles, records of contacts, relationships, activities, meeting notes, and giving histories.
  • Develops, establishes, and maintains a listing of foundation donors/prospects.
  • Ensures that all requests from donors/prospects for information and clarification are responded to accurately, timely, and professionally.
  • Evaluates day-to-day efforts to ensure goals are met and/or surpassed.
  • Actively uses internal case statements and gift opportunities to provide accurate information and opportunities to donors.
  • Works with the Grants Coordinator to develop letters, proposals, and reports for foundations.
  • Works with Grants and Contracts Specialists, compliance, and finance teams to ensure grant reporting and invoicing are completed on time.
  • Accompanies Advisory Board members, Managing Director, Area Commander, and supervisor in support of visits with foundations.
  • Collaborates with members of the Community Relations Department team to ensure coordination of communications, stewardship, and solicitation activities.
