About The Position

The Director of Food & Nutrition plans and directs the total operation of the Dietary Department, ensuring quality, nutritious meals are available to support patients’ quality of life. The director leads food service employees and maintains high standards of food preparation, sanitation, and safety.

Requirements

• Meet at least one qualification outlined by the Virginia Department of Health: be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association; hold a baccalaureate degree with major studies in food and nutrition from an accredited college or university and have at least two years of experience in a health care food or nutrition service; complete an approved food service supervision program that includes major coursework in food and nutrition; hold certification from the Certifying Board of Dietary Managers of the Dietary Managers Association with major coursework in food and nutrition; successfully complete a U.S. Armed Services food service supervision course emphasizing nutrition; or document at least two years of satisfactory food service supervision experience, enroll in an approved program within 60 days of accepting the position, and complete it within 12 months of enrollment.
• Graduate of a state- or ADA-approved course in food services.
• One year of experience in food service at a hospital or long-term care facility.
• At least one year of supervisory experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals.
