About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking a dynamic, multi-task oriented, senior professional to serve as the Director of Fleet Maintenance for the UPNY Market. This role provides oversight and support for multiple locations, specifically overseeing the Manager of Fleet Maintenance for Jersey City, Bronx, and Brooklyn. The Director will ensure alignment of maintenance operations, consistency in execution, and achievement of fleet performance objectives across the market. The primary responsibility is to develop and execute strategies that support and maximize fleet reliability, availability, and performance. This includes monitoring maintenance metrics, managing the maintenance budget, driving preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with company standards, safety requirements, and regulatory obligations. The Director will lead, coach, and guide maintenance teams, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Collaboration with the Area Vice President of Operations and other leaders is key to identifying opportunities for process improvements and resource optimization.

Requirements

  • High School diploma with 7+ years of related experience.
  • Track record on strategic fleet initiatives, OSHA regulations and environmental requirements.
  • Ability to manage and interface with unionized labor.
  • Ability to track and control parts inventories, vendors, suppliers and demonstrate warranty cost savings.
  • Ability to properly prioritize, implement and manage work schedules, projects and assignments.
  • Ability to manage the financial/accounting aspects of a fleet maintenance operation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical competence with light/medium/heavy duty vehicle repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Technical experience with heavy duty truck maintenance.
  • Solid knowledge of managing/directing PM schedules, planning and scheduling and labor management.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Suite and fleet software platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • High degree of multi-tasking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Manager of Fleet Maintenance for Jersey City, Bronx, and Brooklyn.

  • Oversee and lead asset planning, fuel conservation, vendor management, vehicle mechanical safety, productivity and environmental management for the fleet.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and oversee daily management of fleet/logistics operations processes.
  • Ensure contingency policies, systems and practices are in place to prevent and eliminate business disruption.
  • Manage all regulatory compliance (DOT, OSHA, ANSI, etc.).
  • Build and sustain strong business relationships with Operations, Safety, Finance and other relevant internal and external stakeholders.
