About The Position

Fire Service Training (FST) is Oklahoma’s fire training authority and is statutorily authorized (§ 70-3401.02) to provide training for the state’s emergency responders. The Director provides executive leadership to ensure the successful fulfillment of statewide responsibilities related to curriculum development, training delivery, and certification of related knowledge and skill competencies. Responsibilities include establishing the unit’s mission, vision, and values; implementing long-range strategic plans; pursuing diversified financial support; managing the FST budget; guiding the development of new training programs; and representing FST at the university, state, and national levels. As an engineering extension unit within the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University, FST maintains strong partnerships with stakeholders across higher education, government agencies, professional organizations and emergency response communities. The Director plays a key role in fostering and sustaining these trusted relationships while advancing the unit’s mission and statewide impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Educational Administration, Fire Protection and Technology, or related fields of study.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible senior leadership experience in fire and/or emergency services training, certification, workforce development, or comparable public safety education enterprises.
  • Experience should include oversight of strategic planning, budgeting, funding development, and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated success in building consensus with diverse stakeholders including state agencies, local departments, professional associations, higher education, and community partners.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong initiative, independent judgement, decision-making, consensus building, and organizational abilities.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining positive relationships with employees, supervisors, stakeholders, and customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage in public speaking.
  • Working knowledge of accredited professional certification processes.
  • Knowledge of state and national fire, emergency management, and emergency service training agencies and systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Master of Science in engineering or technical discipline, or Master of Science or Master of Arts in adult or vocational education.
  • Completion of the National Fire Academy or Oklahoma Executive Fire Officer Program, or equivalent executive leadership/administrator program.
  • Completion of the National Fire Academy Fire and Emergency Services Training Program Management (R0445).
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible senior leadership experience in fire and/or emergency services training, certification, workforce development, or comparable public safety education enterprises.
